You are Mine

I will drop you in the deepest of oceans
but like a message in a bottle
you will swim to my shore.

I will fly you in the highest of skies
but like a homing pigeon
you will land on my window.

I will let you loose in the busiest of streets
but like a domestic cat
you will stray back to my door.

I will throw you out in the coldest of nights
but like a christmas gift
you will adorn my tree.

I will let you go and walk away
but like the son I never had
I will hear you calling my name.

When you were not looking,
in your core
I planted my seed.

Before you know it,
I shall grow in your soul
like a leafy tree of a hundred years.

I will toss you and turn you
hurt you and burn you
chew you and spit you.

I will hold you and hug you
kiss you and caress you
inhale you and crave you.

Lose yourself in my passion and rage;
Surrender your weapons;
Come unarmed for I will invade you.

I promise to do all that and more;
Do not resist me;
You are mine.

This is a very tricky poem, depending whose gender is placed at the center of it all. It is a poem of slave type of love...... on the other hand who cares to complain in ppetry that one is desperatly lost without the other.

What I mean by "slave love" is the impossiblity to do away with the other or more appropriately the "significant other". The poem stresses pretty much convencingly the inability of one to have his/her destinity. He/she is always on a the tightening grip of the other, like a dog who follows his master. I think love is not a transparent thing, it always has this power relation effect attached to it. Of course I speaking generally here. It is well known that teen inspired (pubert)love is the more innocent in the world, but as we grow old and supposedly wise and understanding, this love turns more rational, calculating, at time become a mean to end and even inspiringly controlling (You said it Marwa by the quote:"..YOU ARE MINE").

I read the poem as a blind condition where one is the master of the other destiny, and sadly without the other even knowing the lack of freedom, will and sense of purpose and its subordinate position. Again, I think it depends on whose gender is the author of the poem. If it is you Marwa, I would say you have an extremely great power on the other (significant other), but you have to worry about it, because the other may one day hate you for it, and use it against you.

The control is mutual Zaki:) and this poem is about marking territories and confessing love:)
